While Michigan is known for many things, fantastic breweries and wineries are one of them. Award-winning brews were born in this state. Southwest Michigan is home to fabulous tasting rooms and craft breweries to satisfy anyone’s tastes. Here are some of the best in Southwest and Paw Paw, Michigan.
Paw Paw Brewing Company
This fairly new brewery was established in 2010 by two brother-in-laws. When you visit this brewery, you’ll notice it’s all about the Paw Paw community and gathering around to experience great brews. Some of their more notable concoctions include Jake’s Vanilla Porter and their St. James Ale. Sit down for a lunch and enjoy a panini and a pint of something on tap.
St. Julian Winery
While they have more than one location in Michigan, their Paw Paw location is where they hold winery tours. Dating back 95 years, St. Julian is the oldest and largest winery in Michigan and focuses on using locally grown fruits. You can tour the winery in Paw Paw year round on the weekends and taste six samples for only $7. Their Blue Heron wine has won several awards over the years. The winery frequently hosts events like their pizza and wine Thursdays.
Barn Brewers Brewery
Located in Lawton, MI, Barn Brewers started as a small town farm kid and his friends brewing the hops from his family’s farm in his home. The barn has become a Southwest Michigan staple for those who love to drink beer, listen to local music, and form new friendships. Their rotating beer list includes hard ciders, barrel aged brews, flights, and growler fills. The brewery offers food from their Bomba’s at the Barn restaurant, featuring barbecue and Mexican dishes. You can even join their lifetime membership for $0.75, which includes a custom mug, $0.50 off mug fills, a t-shirt and more.
Karma Vista Winery
Located in Coloma, MI, the family that owns the winery has been growing fruit at the vineyard since 1847. Karma Vista Winery started in 2002 as one of Michigan’s more unique wineries. You can participate in tastings at Karma for $5 for five tastings. They have a wide variety of reds, whites, moscato, chardonnay, and rose for you to try.
